Insta360 X3

Oh wow.. what a #gizzet (give us it) this is! first captures today and first edit of a video. It’s like someone just made me part of the matrix, I’m just blown away! Remember me saying that the 360 should alleviate dramas with positioning fails? well it does that and delivers far more in spades.

The camera is intuitive, easy to use and already seems like an extension. The screen is great, the swipe is fantastic, the menus and options are easy to navigate. It looks robust enough but at the price I will be trying to avoid destructively testing it at all costs.

The smart phone app is likewise simple, easy, intuitive and I’m sure with a bit more practice I will improve my editing. The app is also available to download on desk/laptop. Which I have done but presumably because I am an iMac and MacBook user the process of transferring over is a big primeval? I.e. You cannot connect the camera to the laptop app like you do with the phone. You have to withdraw the Micro-Sd and plug into the macs. No great shakes I suppose but it just means you need another piece of kit to do it (card reader). Hey this is the first day, I’m probably guilty of not searching the subject properly.

The one fault I have so far and it has always applied to the action cams I’ve owned.. mounts! When are these gonna step away from the thumb screw set up and provide nuts and bolts and a teeny spanner. I’m not changing the cameras set up every two minutes so I can spare a minute or two to unthread a nut with a spanner! I have if I do say so myself extremely strong digits and hands, but even I cannot get some set ups to stay put in one position! Solution? Wickes, B&Q or Homebase will be my next stop. I use Quadlock, it’s a simple system involving an Allen key and Hex head bolts. So much easier and makes things that much tighter. Anyways, more to come later this week.
