whoopsie daisy.... Castle Combe 4/5/6-06-2021

Welcome back to another update! Unfortunately I don’t bring much good news with me as we had our first crash in 2 years of riding big bikes, and it wasn’t even my fault. But we can take a few positives away from our day and a half at Castle Combe.

We arrived late Thursday night and managed to grab a space in the paddock ready for my first trackday at Combe as the year before we didn’t do one and headed straight into racing, so a little bit of practice was really nice. However we did only have 3 sessions in the afternoon due to the monumental amount of people who wanted track time and the test day having to be split.

Despite this we still managed to knock a big chunk off my personal best lap time and leaving me only two to three seconds off of lap record pace which is a massive plus that we can take away from that weekend.

On Saturday morning we went out for morning warm up and my two qualifying sessions. I found qualifying quite tricky that weekend didn’t place as high as we wanted to but now we know not to make the same mistakes again with how we tried to start qualifying off.

We got to race one of the weekend and had a tricky time but managed to finish tenth in class. I cant remember much of what happened that race due to the chaos of the second race of the day. Unfortunately I barely made it into the third lap before being knocked off my machine by another rider. In the chaos I cant remember much of the situation apart from being face down and being in excruciating pain screaming for help.

Usually when people are in pain everything moves slowly but for me I felt like everything was moving faster than ever and before you know it I was in the back of the ambulance on the way to hospital. Apparently I went to the medical center at the track, had a check over there and gave the medics some comedy grief but I’ll be buggered if I can remember that ?!! I do however remember the moment the poor medic in the back of the ambulance relocated my shoulder by accident!! If I’m honest I’m glad he did it there rather than the medics doing it and my poor dad having to see me like that.

The medical team decided it was a good idea to send me to Bath hospital in an ambulance while my dad packs up all the kit into the trailer. Georgia Smart (fins mum) was lovely enough to come with me and look after me while I was in the hospital having my X-rays.

3 weeks on and we are waiting to go to our follow up x-ray on Monday at our local hospital to confirm if there is any breaks in my arm, so as you can imagine its been a pretty long and boring wait as I’ve not been able to go to the gym or do any sort of riding until I’ve been given the all clear from the Doctors. None the less we are making sure we are prepared for the first outing back at Knockhill in July with our sponsors WGA construction LTD.

I would like to thank our club members for making donations toward bike repairs or kit replacement. Every penny counts and is very much appreciated. Also, a massive thank you for the get well soon messages and continued support as we start to hit the middle of what has been a manic but fun year so far!!
