Isle of Arran

With the ravages of the Corona virus not realistically looking like they are going away in time for a good trip in 2021 it is fair to say the majority of us will be staying within the UK for yet another year. With this being the case could I recommend the Isle of Arran'?

Often described as 'Scotland in Miniature' by those visiting it due it's extremely diverse features, environment and nature they would be right. Without mentioning the fantastic whisky, cheese and beer that most people think of you also have a great selection of local fare set on a backdrop of stunning hillsides and the occasional castle. It is about 55 minutes by ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick but the prices in the cafe are fairly unoffensive and Irn-Bru is on tap! Do book though, I have once managed to blag a ferry earlier than planned but this was a complete fluke and I really would not recommend rocking up without a booking, on the plus side you can do these online before hand just giving your name over is enough for the staff to get you booked in at the entrance.

As a bonus word of advice I would also suggest staying on the west coast of the island, yes it is away from the bustle and convenience of Brodick (the main settlement) but it's much quieter and considerably cheaper to go self catering that side. You can also take 'The String', a winding road over the central mountains which is certainly very enjoyable and offers some fantastic views. I was a passenger last time and trust me I envy motorcycle rider who had enough room on this narrow road to jump off and snap a few pictures where as we didn't.
