Welcome to Post Office House Bed and Breakfast
Simon and Claire welcome you to their home at Post Office House, a Grade II Listed former Victorian post office and telephone exchange which was fully refurbished in 2016 and now an elegant AA four-star gold rated bed and breakfast. We offer guests comfortable, cosy and luxurious accommodation with three individually designed en-suite rooms and an emphasis on excellent hospitality, quality and attention-to-detail.
Our facilities include private off-street parking, storage for bicycles and secure parking for motorcycles; complimentary WiFi, full hospitality trays and Nespresso coffee machines in each room. Our three rooms comprise two doubles (one on the ground floor) and one twin.
Our award-winning breakfasts range from Full Northumbrian to the famous Craster kippers, with vegetarian options also available. Special diets are catered for with advance notice. For Vegan diets, we have a separate bespoke breakfast menu in addition to our standard menu and this is extra at £5 per room, per day. We use locally sourced produce for our breakfasts, accompanied by Claire's homemade muesli, jams and marmalade. Breakfast is served in our cosy dining room with a wood burning stove lit in the colder months.
Please note: To adhere with Covid measures, we are continuing with a staggered breakfast system as per 2020 which is essential if we have all three rooms occupied. We have two tables, one seats four (only available for two households of two) and a smaller one seating two. Both adhere to the Government guidelines of 1.5 plus metres for our industry. We will discuss your preferred breakfast time on arrival with us.
Belford is located in North Northumberland and perfectly located between Alnwick and Berwick-upon-Tweed, just minutes off the A1. The stunning coastline and sandy beaches of Bamburgh and Budle Bay are within a few miles. Places on the must-visit list are Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Cragside House, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Barter Books in Alnwick and the beautiful Northumberland Coast with Dunstanburgh Castle and Craster. The Farne Islands is a mecca of wildlife including puffins, grey seals, terns and much more, there are regular boat trips from Seahouses. One for your bucket list is a trip over to Holy Island across the causeway at low tide, it is simply stunning. IMPORTANT: Before planning a trip over to Lindisfarne, it is essential to check the tide times first for safe crossing. This information can be found online under Holy Island Crossing Times
We are also on a main bus route with services along the Northumberland Coast (Coast and Castles) and to all larger towns such as Morpeth, Alnwick and Berwick, with a direct service to Newcastle-upon-Tyne. In Belford, there are local facilities including two pubs (Black Swan and The Salmon). The Black Swan is open for drinks but only light snacks due to Covid restrictions. It is a proper pub where you will receive a warm welcome and a selection of hand-pulled local ales. The Salmon Inn is open Thursday to Sunday, serves food (Thurs-Sun) and a range of real ales, Sunnyhills farm shop (afternoon teas and take-away food until 5 pm and evening meals Fri/Sat only) and a Co-op mini-supermarket. Gastro pubs and seafood restaurants are a short distance away, we also have a very good taxi service in Belford if you wish to leave your bike behind for the evening (by pre-book). Nearest petrol station is Purdy Lodge (2 miles south A1). Motorcycle repairs shops can be found in Berwick (15 miles north).
We do advise that you book in advance for evening meals as our pubs and restaurants will still be operating on limited capacity as previously. Please check with us for information on eating establishments or check with the establishment directly. Various places are providing a delivery/take-away service but please note, take-away food is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN in our guest rooms. If you wish to enjoy a take-away meal, then there is our lovely garden where there are two seating areas, at least 2 metres apart, with one area with a gazebo in place so take away meals can be enjoyed even if it is raining! There is a chiminea if it gets chilly. We also provide plastic plates, cutlery, napkins and glasses for your use and of course, you are welcome to enjoy a beer or wine (or two!) in our garden.
We are four miles from Bamburgh and the beautiful Northumberland Coast. 20 minute ride to Holy Island of Lindisfarne (ONLY accessible on Low Tide, please check Holy Island Tide Crossing times BEFORE making a journey)
